ISSA's Fitness Assessment

I am sure almost, if not all of you out there have your eyes focus on NBC for the Beijing Olympics 2008. I am, along with all of my household members here at home. We've got three TVs here and during primetime, they're all set on the Olympics channel. Seeing the athletes on how they compete in their certain field of sports and seeing them having such healthy and lean bodies, I am just totally in awe. I often asked myself, like some of you usually do, what kinds of foods do they eat? I have learned that the International Sports Sciences Association or ISSA assess an athlete's fitness and health with programs that can turn someone's fitness into achieving his/her professional goal. It's Not Your Weight That Matters--It's How Much of Your Weight is Fat. This just makes me ask myself as well. How much fat do I have and how much of it is good for my health? Hmmm... I gotta browse issaonline.com for more of this interesting facts.

Meanwhile, here's their press release for more information.

Press Release:
Fitness Assessment: Measure Your Fat, Not Your Weight
It’s not how much you weigh, it’s how much of your weight is fat.
Simple test determines your fat content, health risks.

Carpinteria, CA – August 20, 2008 - Within the past week, the American Heart Association, Journal of the American Medical Association and the American Cancer Society have cited new studies that seem to indicate the deteriorating health of Americans may not be related solely to weight--but to declining overall fitness levels.

While it is virtually impossible today to remain oblivious to the importance of exercise for staying healthy, there has been a marked emphasis on “weight” versus “fitness” in western society’s perception of health and wellness. Consequently, many people of “normal” weight continue to be uniformed of the fact that they may still be at risk for elevated levels of blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar if they lead a sedentary (inactive) lifestyle.

It has long been known that there are adverse effects associated with physical inactivity. Adults who are less active are at greater risk of dying of heart disease and developing diabetes, colon cancer, and high blood pressure. Illnesses related to physical inactivity and poor diet cause at least 300,000 deaths each year in the U.S.

Body mass index (BMI), which is calculated through a height-to-weight ratio alone has been the standard method of measuring a person’s “fatness” or “thinness” since 1950’s and 60’s, when obesity was becoming a noticeable medical concern in the U.S. As a result, being at a “normal” BMI weight is not necessarily a reliable indicator of health.

In fact, physically active individuals who have more lean tissue than their sedentary counterparts, as well as taller people, often have a BMI that classifies them as obese when they actually have healthy body fat levels. Likewise, and more dangerous, slender or thin but inactive individuals often have a BMI that puts them within normal, or even underweight, ranges when they actually have high levels of body fat.

Because of the overemphasis on BMI that has developed over the last few decades, these “skinny fat” people often remain unaware that they are at an elevated risk for developing diseases typically associated with obesity until they are already facing health issues.

According to the International Sports Sciences Association, an organization that has educated and certified personal trainers for more than 2 decades, using a quick but reliable method of measuring various body circumferences (e.g. neck, thighs, upper arm, waist, hip) to assess total body fat better determines one’s body composition (fat vs muscle) than BMI alone. Measuring circumferences also provides personal trainers and clients with a very easy way to gauge clients’ progress.

“For people to begin to take a proactive approach to their health, they really need to know what their percentage of fat versus muscle is.” said Dr. Sal Arria, CEO and Co-Founder of the ISSA. Dr. Arria goes on to add, “most studies have shown that by just adding ONE circumference measurement at the waist to BMI, you can better predict a patient’s risk for type 2 diabetes and for all-cause mortality. Waist circumference is also about twice as good at predicting future coronary heart disease than BMI alone.”

The ISSA believes that personal trainers and health clubs should be utilizing circumference measurements as another tool to assess body fat because trainers can achieve proficiency with a few hours of practice and when done properly, the results can be replicated.

Patrick Gamboa, ISSA Vice President of Education, cautions that a person’s true fitness cannot be assessed by body measurements alone. True fitness must also take into account strength, aerobic capacity and flexibility measurements to most accurately predict longevity. Most gyms offer this type of assessment for free to their members.

About the ISSA
Since 1988, the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) has provided certification and continuing education to more than 100,000 wellness professionals in 85 countries around the globe. The ISSA offers a core personal training certification as well as eight additional specialized fitness certifications.

Pinas Faces2

If you have been a follower of my blogs, you must have known about my break from posting when I was away. Now that we're done with our vacation back in Philippines which is nakaka-miss, I hope you won't mind if I'll be posting my photos here to share these with those who like to see a glimpse of our getaway. With how many these photos are (as in there are gigabytes of them!), I am trying to document them here in my blogs so I have a proper archive when I want to reminisce this experience. I did saved it in CDs but this would be different, right? This is my second album for now (therefore, watch out for some more! LOL). The first one is in my Rare Ordinary Thoughts and here goes what I wanna share:

It's All About the Sales and Deals

Shopping with some limited amount of money to spend is hard, especially when you have to go to the store to get what you want to buy. It's my way of shopping before I invested half of my time in the internet. Now, I do my shopping thing online, most of the times. Only groceries do I have to run to the stores, but mostly, I do it online. With walmart ads and circuit city deals that I often get from sites that offer huge savings especially blackfriday.biz, I could have the best time shopping! Now I am bound to save for the targets I've made come Black Friday madness. See, when we left Philippines for our return here, a niece asked me for a laptop which I find to be of worth to give cause I could see her need and that, she deserves to have one, too because of her academic achievements. And then my brother-in-law asked for an MP3, too which, I think I have the heart to give if only I can buy one. LOL (Gotta save for it!) And lastly, my sister who just got married last June asked me if I could leave my digital camera to her. Of course not, as this is one very precious and of sentimental value. But I did promised her I'll send her one maybe this holiday season. So you see, I have a lot of targets here. I know I'll need to save some more money, thank goodness I could get them all online via BlackFriday.biz. But first, I gotta sign up for their email alerts so I will know ahead when those black friday ads have been posted.

When shopping, it's all about the sales and deals baby! What about you? Are you thinking of that black friday madness as early as now?

bz busy me!!!

Off I left early for grocery shopping. Last night SIL and Nora went to Cub Foods to get a stock of frozen tuna fish and some delis and fresh veges but they forgot to get cabbage and ginger roots which we very need for broth and soup. And since we don't have water here anymore, too, I asked swithart and Triz to go with me. We spent a little longer at Wal-mart as I was tempted to browse at the Clearance section of the kids' apparel, and the next thing I know, gosh, I was bringing with me several clothes for Triz to the counter. Waaaah I thought I have promised to never buy linen stuff when we get here since I brought a lot from Pinas but seeing the clearance items just makes me drool. LOL Now I gotta do my business here at triple p. There have been a lot that I have missed since this morning and I still have laundry to take care with. Not to mention Triz who's asking me to sit beside her while on Boz the Bear and Elmo. Hmp! How much mommyness power do I get? LOL

madly monday

Have a great Monday everyone!
It's been awesome here. Had a good rest last night, very early, and now, a 4am start of the day is marvelous! Triz gave me a fantastic sleep, too. Today will be the start of swithart's school so I'll be left home with our darling Triz. No complaints or whatsoever, even if swithart won't be home till evening. Ma and Pa are still here, no jobs to attend to so they're keeping me company. I've got many things to do here but I'll do them one at a time. Meanwhile, gotta wish you all a fantastic week ahead. Today will be a great start for that. May you all are in the best mood!
Keep smiling...

Have You Considered Distance Learning?

Well, I do! See, it doesn't give me a benefit of a doubt that success could still be achievable with distance learning. My older sister, when she was working in the Middle East as domestic helper and tutor to a couple of Arab kids went into distance learning and I would say she did great with it. My husband, in his masteral units in BS Math did a distance learning courses as well but didn't finished it when he moved here in the US. Well, it still gave him a huge advantage in his career. And I did, too, a home study and online course sort of, with a 6-month medical transcription course. Boy was it tough and difficult [just the course though] bu very manageable because the instructors were very poignant of their students to really learn. And what about UK Open Learning Home Study Courses? Man they're one big thing to consider! They've got wide range of distance learning courses and with their options, I am pretty sure achieving your potential and goals has ways with them.

this... this I have learned

I am talking about Purebuds. I hope you know about this too, cause I think u need to if you are a headphone user. Well, I am, a bit, as I usually use one when I want to listen so something and I don't want others to hear what I have been listening. That's for the most part, but when we use our MP3, it really comes with a headphone in it. And so you see how often we use a headphone. And now comes Purebuds.

Purebuds are headphones that uses a reverse sound technology that reduces discomfort and potentially reduce the harm and damage to eardrums. I am a big fan of earbuds because the regular kind just likes slipping out of my ears. The design of Purebuds is rather appealing too.

The design of Purebuds is created to fit snugly in your ears to create a natural sound effect. Now you know? Well, I hope you do. This has been a very informative read in my part and with this, I feel that we are bound to get one. This couldn't only protect my own ears as well as swithart but also Triz as well especially that she, along with us, listens thru a headphone many times, too.

Yes, I am glad it's Friday once again.
Time to finish all these task for the week as tomorrow, it's going to be a time off from my usual daily routine. I've slept last night very early, in fact, ahead of everybody here. Today's start of the day was reading the conclusion part of the book Inside the Kingdom by Carmen Bin Ladin and it was awesome. SIL Daisy left very early for Indianapolis and she's going to be there till Sunday for her military duty. Whew, that made Ma and Pa very nervous and sad as there's a huge chance of her being deployed. Unknown to them, when we were in Philippines, SIL has been on a six-month-training (weekends only) for her military duty and today is one of the continuation. As to when we'll know the deployment status, time will tell. For now, I wish you all a great and restful weekend.

Blaze Media Pro Multimedia Software

We purchased all our MP3s and MP4s online (as it's where we could find the best deal!!!), and so, all further instructions and queries that we had regarding its use and operation, we turned online, too. It wasn't my task, though but swithart as he is more into such thing than I am. And when it comes to conversions of the files' formats, he turned to Blaze Media Pro Multimedia Software. To convert AVI to MPG, CD to wav, mp3, flac, and so much more is so easy using Blaze Software. Video creation and editing is also available and here's the most unbelievable thing that we have made through Blaze: we have inserted and/or extracted the audio files into the video and we have done it using images as well! That was very cool, yes! If you know what I am talking about, then Blaze Media Pro is great for you. Otherwise, go check the site now!

forget about the blackberry!!!

...that's for now! Hehe... Because I've laid out another target after swithart seconded the motion on this one. LOL . See, we brought a total of five MP3 and MP4 when we went home to Philippines, and coming back, we've brought zero of them all. We've given them to nephews, niece, and brothers and trust me, they weren't even enough! I didn't realize such gadgets are the most "in" and "hot" in the country. Even high schoolers own one. Hah. Such a life! I was disgruntled to learn upon our window shopping that cellphones and digital cameras four or five years ago were really that expensive but now, they are really that affordable. And that's simply because the likes and luxuries of the people have shifted to the current MP3s or MP4s.

With this one, I don't blame them. My 12-in-1 MP4 was passed on to my Kuya (older brother). That thing was supposed to be so precious to me as I have bought it from my own pocket (thanks t blogging!) No, it wasn't wasted as it was heartily given.
 Photobucket
And after seeing this iWoodiPhone at a Japanese technology website not very long ago, makes me crave to have this one as replacement to what we have distributed. Worry I no more because my sister and brother-in-law who live in Japan promised to send one as soon as they could get it for us. Of course, I gotta show it here when I'll have it. That having said, my desire of getting a new phone will be set aside for now. I just have to stick to my old one. It still is usable anyway!

Team Up With IZEA!!!

I received my ever first payout via Paypal through Payperpost last July 28, 2007. That's over a year now and to date, I have made more than a thousand dollars just at PPP. Isn't that amazing? For a stay-at-home parent like I am, earning my own using my skills and my loved hobby of expressing my thoughts and perspectives through writing and blogging is a great, if not the greatest thing! Swithart of course is proud of me and is happy as well for the support I could give to our household financially. I know there are several people in the blogosphere who deserve credit for me to have blogged about things and me getting paid and I am truly thankful to them. But more than that, IZEA deserves my appreciation and praise all throughout. Why so, because as a social media marketing, they are the ones who have bridge bloggers like me to multiple advertisers in the world wide web giving both parties the connection, the professional connection that a real company-employee must have. When I started, it was only the famous PayPerPost but several months ago, the new SocialSpark was launched making IZEA the most dynamic and in-demand blogging company that a blogger and an advertiser are lucky to be a part of. With IZEA's wide variety of media marketing services, if you are an advertiser, now is the best time to team up with IZEA's PayPerpost and SocialSpark!

craving for ginataang langka

I am not back to my cooking mood yet, until now. I don't know when my desire will take effect again; all I know is that laziness and lonesome feelings are taking its toll on me, still. I pity these people here at home, they are eating ready-made and repeated viands. As for me, I am contented with the dried fish that I have brought. Selfish me. But more than that, I am craving, really, for my Mama's the bestest ginataang langka (fresh, not canned jackfruit in coconut milk). Yey, when can I ever have a taste of this again! LoL.
 Photobucket
No, don't let me enumerate some of the things, especially the foods that I am missing and craving to death. There's just a lot. But I don't know, this makes me eat less and less, which has a little positive effect on me, as I am dying to lose all these extra pounds that I have gained. What about you, are you craving for something?

Flea Trap

I left CDO, Philippines a week ago missing not only my loved ones but also the dog that we three have learned to love. Hehe.. I am not a pet lover you know, but after having fed Wasabi (our dog's name), and bathe and  cared for him, he has some part in me. We used to buy dog foods, dog hygiene products, including flea trap and shampoos and I love seeing Triz likes to play with Wasabi. Now I am liking the site fleascontrol.com as I find it so informative and helpful to any pet lovers out there!

Worth recommending.

slacking time? nah...

What's this blogging thing via SocialSpark? I mean, I know about them five months ago but haven't really browsed the site that much when I was away. Now I've started taking a couple of opps but just till there. I have not written even a single thing yet. I don't know, I seem to be slacking or just lazy or somewhat tired, or busy with some other things! Right now, I am chatting with dear friends and oh... I am missing opps once again. I better keep going you know. I've got so much things in my to-do list and I seem to be finding a hard time. I still lack some rest as Triz isn't back to the normal sleeping pattern yet. Yesterday, she was sleeping from 11am to 10pm. And then up till 3am. Argh, I don't know how you'll call that! As for me, it's a big deal really. Lemme just wish you a great Tuesday friends!

Grandfather Clocks As Investment

I remember I was too young then when I first saw a grandfather clock; a Howard Miller grandfather clock that was! It was in my old Aunt's huge living room and we were staying there for a vacation. I was wondering why such clock was that big and I realized by and by that was kind of an investment. I learned that it was one expensive thing made of high end materials and were created through a unique pieces of art work making it look elegant when put in the right place and yet, so very important in its usage. I have also learned that in Philippines, grandfather clocks can be pawned and that, my old Aunt's grandfather clock was one of those being pawned so as to support her children from their schooling. In our public library here, one old grandfather clock meets you along the entrance, reminding me of my Aunt's and oh how my daughter loves to listen to its chimes every time we're there. I have wished of getting one when we could have our own place soon. One that looks like this, if not exactly like this:
 Photobucket
It's style and design is made perfectly for my taste I believe. It couldn't be detected as a grandfather clock at first but simply just an ordinary kind of a home decor. Isn't that gorgeous? Oh well, grandfather clocks are not ordinary wall clocks where you only need to get a hold or a lift of it when it needs battery replacement. Grandfather clocks, as I've said are one great investment where proper caring and maintenance for them are but of utmost importance so as to protect your investment to the highest. Read about Caring for Grandfather Clocks for your information.

still organizing 'em

How I wish to start uploading and posting these hundreds of photos that I have from our vacation. I know there are a lot who are waiting to see and look at these poses of ours but laziness still strikes me. Hehe. I actually find it hard where to start cause I have tons of them and swithart suggested to save them all in a disc first but still, it's that difficult because a single album won't fit in a disc. I am trying so hard to find a site that offers free uploading and fast. I do have accounts at shutterfly, snapfish, slide, kodakgallery, flickr, friendster, walmart, and photobucket and I tried uploading at them BUT I find it the greatest at photobucket. Believe me, I've spent hours saving them in my account (I started this morning, around 11am), and until now, I am not done yet of course, that's with a break!). It is so hard to organize them all as like I've said, I have tons and tons. Hmp! You people back in CDO and Davao and in Trento, Agusan Sur who are waiting for these shots, please hang in there. I'll let you know by email if all these are ready to be viewed.

Fenphedra On the Go

It sure is no secret how many those women out there are in the lookout of the best diet pill ever. Well, I would say there are a bunch of them and with how unique our body system is, everything just doesn't work for somebody. I am one of those women and I would confess I have tried taking one recently. BUT I stopped as it didn't fit my system. And I am not closing door, in fact, I would be trying on one as long as it would be okayed by my OB-GYN.  I am reading the fenphedra review and it seems likable and fine. As I have said there are a lot of available diet pills in the market right now and choosing one according to your system's needs is one best thing to put in mind. If you are really serious about it, spend some more time to really explore and see what fenphedra can offer. An inquiry with an expert would be helpful, too.

missing everybody

It's only been a couple of days since we got back, and yet, we are missing everybody already! In fact, I am not resuming my work as a chef yet as I do missed my mornings back home when Mama is up so early in the morning to prepare yummy and great breakfast and all I have to do is just get out of bed and proceed to the dining table right away. Yay, lazy moi! Now Triz is missing not only people but places and thinks as well. She misses Ati Abing, and 'col Arnel whom she used to play with at bedtime. Lola who she always calls her morning friend. The jollibee, the chickenjoy, the fries. Hehe. The bus, the jeep, the pedicab, the multicab, the sikad. Hah. I could go on and on. And on. I just can't enumerate them all because there are indeed a lot. Today is Friday and I need to get going. So enough with this lonesome feelings of mine and try to turn things back to basics. Good luck to me!

Getting Out Of It

As many of you know, we came from a long vacation! Well, it was a time we needed to get away from the stress and lonesome feelings of missing home. After four years of waiting, we were able to go home and spend some five months with our old folks back in Philippines. And with that five months of not earning our monthly salary, how would you think we ever survive such time financially? The truth is, right now, we are broke and very much indebted. Hehe. See, in Philippines, when you are from abroad, everybody in the family and even close and distant relatives tend to depend on you for the daily expenses there and we are no exception. If you are a fellow Filipino, I am so sure familiarity of this thing strikes.

If we are to look at our bank and credit card accounts, honestly, we could say we are in need of a Debt help. I must admit how hard this situation is, but looking back at the time we have spent back home and how we were able to help somebodies, it is a different fulfillment. But along our financial struggle this time comes bills.com where finding debt help, loan quotes and being given some tips on how to save money can be found in their resource centers. Debt consolidation and debt management have never been this easy via bills.com. Now we are but in the process of getting out from this financial nightmare. It's a challenging task and we are ready to face this.

not on the go yet

I still am adjusting my body clock right now. Jet lagged, you know. Reason why I am such a lazy a*s when it comes to uploading and posting photos and sharing experiences here. I know, I know I owe you all big time with these sort of adventure we have had, and I am trying so hard to get over this tiresome feeling. I am back to my usual old routine here-- doing the kitchen, making meals and laundrying. I do have time to spend online but nope, it's not a big deal yet. Triz is adjusting too with her sleeping pattern and we all had to bear with this. Yesterday we slept the whole day and woke up at 7pm and were awake till 1am. Today, she woke up at 4:40am, and what can I do but join her in her early morning play. LoL. Seems like her sleep last night was just a nap, and today, she closed her eyes at 11:30am. I would guess she'll be waking up late this afternoon. Just in time for dinner, which, I would guess she thinks it's gonna be breakfast time! Hah.

Try Xenadrine. Errrrrr.... Pricesexposed.net!

I have something to confess. I was desperate to lose some weight as I can feel I've gained a lot. Lovedones and people around me often said that I look okay and much better when I gained weight but I felt  terrible because I really find it very hard to look for clothes that would fit and look good on me. Then I tried to take a diet herbal pill with swithart's and my OB-GYN's permission and that happened a couple of months ago. No, I didn't took Xenadrine RFA-X as it was not what was recommended but having read the reviews of Xenadrine RFA-X via pricesexposed.net, I am tempted to try.I say I am tempted to try because I have only sticked to my old herbal diet pill for three weeks. The reason? It didn't fit me at all! I had a lot of negative side effects experienced and I stopped taking it. Now, I still am in the lookout for one. I am enjoying pricesexposed.net site as it helps me a lot with what I am searching. Maybe this will help you, too.

whew!!! after such a long time...

...now I am back!
Not only from the more than 24-hour-flight but from the very long vacation we have had. I missed you all bloggerfriends and visitors and I thank you for constantly being here in my page. I know, I know I have so much to do in return and in time, I can do it all. For now, I have to do what I am suppose to do first: arranging and organizing stuff here. And of course, I owe my body and my whole system enough rest for me to get going so don't wonder if ever I won't be able to hop on your blogs for now.

Just  letting you know, in the past couple of hours, this blogger...

…just got back!

I Love Night Time!!!

...that is, when the moon and stars are all up there sharing its twinkles and lits. I mean, who wouldn't? Doesn't that sound too romantic enough? Hehe.. And oh, wait till you experience night time here in Philippines when the sky is clear enough for you to see the moon and stars widely displaying their array of beauty! With the Night Vision apparatus and devices from opticsplanet.net, you will be able to experience the real beauty of the sky during the night. Receiving sports optics like binoculars, spotting scopes, telescopes, radar guns, flashlights, and so much more from the leading brands and manufactures is one of the greatest things a hobbyist and a trying-to-be astronomer like me would greatly appreciate.
